Thai Lime: L’incontro tra una tecnica orientale e un’icona occidentale
COME SI PROCEDE?
👜 Thai Lime – Where Eastern Technique Meets Western Icon
Creating the Thai Lime bag felt like taking a creative journey through different cultures, united by a shared passion for beauty and timeless elegance.
The foundation of this project is a Kelly-inspired set in military green eco-leather — a classic, evergreen charm. The Kelly bag needs no introduction: born in the 1930s from the renowned maison Hermès, it owes its name to Princess Grace Kelly, who turned it into the ultimate symbol of grace and refinement in the 1950s. To this day, the Kelly remains a global style icon, adored and desired by women everywhere.
To this timeless classic, I added a modern, Eastern twist through the Thai stitch. I chose a vibrant lime green bag yarn, full of energy — perfect to give the design a bold and refreshing character. The Thai stitch, besides being extremely elegant, creates a texture that is both pleasant to the touch and visually striking.
Thai Lime is more than just a bag — it’s a meeting point between East and West, tradition and innovation. Perfect for anyone seeking uniqueness and personality in an artisanal accessory, it’s ideal for sophisticated yet lively looks, to face every moment of the day with style.
Whether it’s a brunch with friends, a day at the office, or a special evening out — with Thai Lime, you’ll never go unnoticed.
✨ Carry with you a piece of history, creativity, and energy: choose Thai Lime. ✨
HOW TO MAKE IT
Start by chaining 60 stitches and working single crochet (sc) for about 4 cm.
(Actually, I alternated 1 row of double crochet (dc) with 1 row of sc for texture.)
Once you reach 4 cm in height, use stitch markers: mark 8 + 8 stitches at the beginning and end of the row, leaving 28 stitches in the center.
Work the following pattern across the row:
8 sc / 8 hdc / 28 dc / 8 hdc / 8 sc
This creates an oval-shaped base.
Insert a piece of mesh to give the base structure, then continue working in Thai stitch.
The stitch is simple and doesn’t require joining rounds, which ensures a smooth, seamless texture.
Continue working until you reach a height of 18 cm.
FINISHING TOUCHES
Now, prepare the chain set using chain stitches, then work 3 single crochet into each chain.
Use a needle to sew the set to the top edge of the bag.
To make this easier, work a round of sc along the bag’s upper edge — place 1 sc for each dc, skipping the Thai stitch eyelets to maintain a clean finish.
If you’d like, you can also insert a lining.
I used a fabric piece measuring 36×21 cm.
Just sew three sides together and place it inside the bag before attaching the Kelly-style closure.
CUSTOMIZE YOUR THAI LIME
The bag can be customized starting with color — choose the combo you love most.
Of course, you can also experiment with different stitch patterns. Once you understand the measurements and construction technique, feel free to modify it however you like to make it truly your own.
The closure features a convenient zipper and two rings so you can add a shoulder strap or crossbody strap, depending on your preferred way to wear it.
